The Blair Square project was a collaboration between the Town of Holliston, Beals + Thomas, Inge Daniels Design, LLC and MJ Cataldo.
With the installation of pavers, re-purposed historic granite, a pavilion, and site amenities, this project came together and is used by the public every day.
The design team was interested in managing stormwater on site and considered featuring permeable pavers and rain gardens on this project. M.J. Cataldo, a long-time user of Ideal products, introduced and recommended Andover 5511 to the design team. The decision was made to use Andover 5511 based on color selection, the ability to install as a permeable paver, the quality of the product, and pricing.
The completed design celebrates the history of the park as a station on the historic Pink Granite Line – the original rail line transporting Milford Pink Granite into Framingham and points beyond – through its use of blocks of this granite, reclaimed from the Charlestown Bridge, as a featured seat wall. With an expansive lawn, permeable paver plaza, long seat wall, and shaded pavilion; the park’s design provides a multi-purpose, “Commons” space to the Town of Holliston. Other features include three rain gardens, planting beds, an informational kiosk, a bubbler, a bike rack, picnic tables, backed benches, lighting, and irrigation. Planting was selected to be predominantly native and to tie into the natural, wooded landscape of the Rail Trail.
